I have always loved the Thinline Telecasters. I was in New York in 2004 when Sterling was much stronger and I very nearly bought a Fender from a store in Brooklyn. I should have done!
In 2015 I bought a lovely 72 Thinline. Its a Squier, but none the worse for that – those Vintage Modified guitars are still very desirable.

I have found it to be a fantastic modding and testing platform for subsequent pickups and arrangements. I was lucky to find a scratchplate for standard humbucker sizes and had loads of fun testing out superswitch wiring schemes. These are available on the resources section of this web site.

I quite like a P90 in the neck and the Iron Gear Alchemist is a lovely clear and quite bright pickup, so I figured this would work well with one of their overwound Steel Foundry bridge pickups. I added a push-pull to put the pickups in series and this also works well, giving a really useful range of sounds.
I had some thin sapele sheets with quite attractive figure and decided to make a custom pickguard. I think the end result is a very different and unique guitar.
