In the introduction, I mentioned a router mishap – but the The top wings and bottom half of the body had already been made!
After some pondering – and to try to get maximum value from the lovely wood which had already been invested in the neck blank – I decided to cut up the neck into three pieces. The top body section was removed and glued into position. The remaining straight section of the neck was cut and glued into the body back which had the centre section removed and prepared to receive it. Since the back section of the guitar was thicker than the neck blank, some additional wood was needed to make up the required thickness.
The original weight relief design was preserved. Hopefully the following gallery makes sense – it should be clear which were taken from the original design and which represent the final body design with the matching insert in the back.
A new neck blank was made – for my usual bolt-on arrangement – and included two strips of the remaining padauk.
The fingerboard had been made and was used without modification on the new neck.
