Simon Mad Cat “2+1”

This guitar takes ideas from the previous Simon “2+1” and Mad Cat designs. The bridge position employs two Stratocaster pickups and the neck position has a Telecaster pickup. The guitar has two characters – one is almost pure Tele, the other is Super Strat (when the two bridge pickups are selected in series).

Design

Previous templates for body routing and weight relief were used. One additional template was made for the pickup cavity touting under the two wooden scratchplates.
The guitar has a high proportion of re-purposed wood. The wonderful mahogany back is from an old door and the top uses various offcuts – very light Oak, Mahogany, Black Limba, Purple Heart, American Cherry and Wenge.

Build

All pretty standard – similar to previous builds, so fewer photos of the process.
